#Mimosa #Making Of
Okay, now that it’s been a year since I started working on this game, I would like to just sit down, and have a little chat- errr…. tell a little story…
The idea of Nursery Rhyme personifications came to mind in 2018, when I began thinking about a character themed after an iconic nursery rhyme involving a mouse running up a clock. That rhyme in question is Hickory Dickory Dock. I attempted to design a character based on it, but it fell through.
During my time in high school, I played this PICO-8 Metroidvania titled Little Dragon Adventure, and it was both fun and cute, to the point that I played it a couple of times throughout my life. The idea of having a cute dragon character as the protagonist of a Metroidvania was inspired by this game, hence why I created the baby dragon character.
That baby dragon would eventually become the game’s protagonist, Mimosa.
As a result, I decided that I combine both the concept Little Dragon Adventure had and the personifications of Nursery Rhyme into that very project that I know today:
Mimosa and the Clocktower.
Unfortunately, the aforementioned project never went far into development and was quickly abandoned as I couldn’t understand how to use RPGM 2003 at all. This ultimately led him to get a revamp into what he is now:
The prince of Village Port that Mimosa befriends.
Funnily enough, Whitetip design-wise changed the least, as all I did was get rid of the diamond marking from his forehead, and made the small fins function as arms now. Oh, and he got a alternate form as well.
Currently, the game is still in active development, but I just felt like spilling the beans as to how Mimogame came to light. Now, the project has grown into something special to me, the further it continues to expand. I hope I could spread word of it throughout the internet, and the history that led to Mimogame’s creation.
Had Mimosa not existed, the game’s villain, Dock, would’ve been the protagonist instead. Had this game not existed at all, I would’ve worked on that ill-fated RPGM2003 project that starred Whitetip.
But really, this game really did become the one thing that I ended up working on.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this, and thanks to the people who had given me critiques on the game’s development so far. I greatly appreciate it. For now, you can watch the recent video of the game in its current state. I’ll hopefully get this project finished in the future, but only time will tell.
