I just finished programming this into the game and it's a bit fun to actually execute the keys.
It's a timed quick time event. What you do is press the keys on the screen before the time runs out and if you succeed, in this case, stealing, then you get an item!
I can tell you this for sure though, this will be a core mechanics for the game and there will be hints and surprises with this mechanics. Just can't say yet.
