Hi! It hasn't been long since our last Devlog update, but despite that, we have some new additions that we want to share with you that will improve the gaming experience. Also our core game ideas are starting to finally get fully implemented.
First, although it doesn't change the game-play experience that much, we’re happy to announce you that the animated logo for our game is finally finished :0
Next, out team came up with a new logo for our group, it reads "Disobedient Cat" and it reflects the nature of the name and makes us look more professional xD)
With respect to the game-play itself, we enlarged the Tile-map on our development levels, this is in order to make our level design work easier on us; and, from a graphics design standpoint looks better too.
Different issues we’ve been having with level design (Which for this kind of game is very hard :O) forced us to focus on simpler concepts that can be implemented quicker on different maps, which led us to make a "testing level", allowing us to try out these new game-play concepts and "test" them before committing to them on a real level.
For instance, we added a new element to the game: a moving platform that activates once we collect the first available key on our testing level, this allows for the player to reach parts of the level that couldn’t be accessed before.
Also, we added and tested the ability to go through walls that the characters now have when they are dragged back to their "synchronous" state.
This little idea allows us to really test the creativity of the players, and their ability to adapt to different complex situations. Try it yourself, you will notice it isn't as easy as it seems, it takes several attempts to succeed (We hope in the future xD), and this is a perfect moment to announce that Levels can now be Completed!!, and not only that, bananas will fly all over the screen when you do it. 🍌😀🍌
Having implemented all those things, all that is left to do is to make the player react to enemies making use of the cute health bar we added a while back, we will add more obstacles too. More visual elements will be added as well as a soundtrack to the game in order to make it look and sound more polished. Some of those additions affect the way we make levels, which we'll be focusing our efforts from now on.
As we have mentioned since our first update, creating fun and engaging levels is the most difficult part of this project. In this regard we actually want them to be a challenging, but more importantly a fun experience, without being too hard or frustrating. As a game developing team we will strive to keep an equilibrium between effort and reward. :D
In other topics, a redesign of the main menu UI has been achieved 🙂
That's all we have for you today, we wish you luck and be ready for what is coming in the future. :)
Or most sincere regards,
The Disobedient Cat team. :3
