Lord of Lies Devlog #7

October 21st 

Hey guys, it’s Joy and I have been busy, busy writing. I finished ACT 1 and am working my way through ACT 2, the largest portion.

Fortunately, I have a 3 day weekend that is dedicated to writing as much as I can of ACT 2. Wish upon a star that I get lots of it done! 🙏

So I ended up having to redo my outline once more, (only for a couple parts and I am once again a lot happier with it) Endings for me can be quite tough, specifically leading into the climax, and the climax portion. 

There’s so much pressure to make it exciting and satisfying. 

I just want to set things up and write kiss scenes 🫠

I used a 27 chapter style outline as a guideline. The story is quite lengthy, but has to be due to the size of the cast.

Usually Fairy Tale’s are shorter, but I think my story is a simple story told in a complex and nuanced way. Can’t go into much detail regarding that as it is rife with spoilers.

Something I noticed as well that the book failed at was that Lawrence and Gala didn’t have many scenes together, their relationship is quite simple, but like Lord of Lies itself, I don’t want simplicity to mean boring or stale. So this time I will keep it simple and dive into the complexities.

I suppose that is the strategy for the Fairy Tale aspect of this story as well.

So aside from the story bits I want to have some fun and talk about a fun writing technique I use for characters before I get the chance to write them and that’s to assign a zodiac sign to each character and get their vibe before fleshing them out fully in the story itself.

So I’ll be showing you the zodiac signs of each character! Yes, I know this seems random but I really feel like this will give you the best insight to these characters and their interactions and compatibility (though I believe all signs can be compatible of course, it’s more for funsies.)

Lawrence- Capricorn- December 24th

Strengths:

• Expects the worst

Charles- Cancer- June 28th

• Hard shell but soft in the middle

King- Pisces- March 7th

Duke- Leo- August 14th

Lawrence x Gala Dynamic

Lawrence and Gala are very compatible! Capricorns and Scorpios are both quite serious, but are very down to Earth when they feel super close to someone. They are untrusting of others and fiercely loyal. Lawrence and Gala feel the need to self isolate and look at the other from afar longingly.

There is a silent comfort in the others presence. They show their love for eachother in actions rather than words. 

There’s a childish innocence and authenticity, but a very adult handling of said relationship. There’s lots of traditional romantic gestures and steps for these two. Lawrence loves the idea of a simple life- a house of his own, a wife and many children to provide for. 

The passion is always boiling under the surface but behind closed doors it’s pure fire and passion- a world between just them two. 

The two feel like they complete each other to me. Fun little detail is that Lawrence’s eyes are so dark brown they are almost black just like Gala’s hair, and her eyes are a light brown like Lawrence’s hair!

Next Week’s Devlog Sneak Peak

I might reveal some more in depth dynamics between characters like I did for Lawrence and Gala~! There are some important group dynamics, who gets along? Who doesn’t? Who are into eachother? (Lawrence and Gala are not the only couple >:D) stay tuned for next week to find out more!

I’d love to hear who you relate the most and least to? Personally I relate the most to Prince and relate the least to Charles and Gala (but I love them all very much).
