MS80 Pre-Alpha 0.3.0
Posted October 21, 2023 by LPG
Hey! It’s been a week since our last pre-alpha build, 0.2.0.
Today, we’re releasing a new build with a bunch of new features and fixes!
The major theme of this update is HEAT! Managing heat now has much more depth. We’re going to be leveraging these new heat-based mechanics as we add more parts and stuff to do to the game.
Solar Panels!
The game has gained a new power source, solar panels! While we had a prototype in 0.2.0, we now have real models with multiple sizes available.
If you’re playing on the story level, you’ll need to start a new save to get these.
All Changes
- Added new parts:
- Solar Panels
- Available in three sizes, these panels generate electricity when exposed to the sun.
- Resistive Heat Pad
- Resistive heaters turn electricity directly into heat. This heater is very good at conducting that heat directly into an attached object.
- Thermoeletric Generator
- TEGs turn heat flow into electricity. A small percentage of the heat that flows through this object will turn into electrical current.
- Added new types of connections:
- Silver Thermal Paste is a great conductor with a high melting point.
- Aerogel Pads can be used to thermally insulate objects very well.
- Improved wire connection controls.
- You can now double click to disconnect all wires from a socket.
- Players can now freeze to death or overheat. Maintaining your body temperature is important for survival in harsh climates.
- Players now recover health slowly when not recently hurt.
- Batteries now heat up when used, and will explode if they get too hot!
- There is currently no visible feedback for battery explosions. Good luck.
- Significantly improved thermodynamic model.
- Conductivity is now much more impactful.
- Most objects now have more accurate VHC, conductivity, and density values.
- Adhesive can be used to raise or reduce conductivity between objects.
- Living things now generate and radiate heat to stay warm.
- Net Heat Flow is now reported in engineering mode.
- Temperature is now reported in degrees Celsius instead of Kelvin.
- Added material presets in the editor, which can be used to quickly create geometry of a solid material.
- Equipped items like helmets and backpacks no longer fall off when hot.
- Rebalanced weapon damage across the board.
- Fixed the rotation of holstered weapons.
