Milestone 2 Devlog
Introduction
This milestone was focused on implementing the core elements of the game. The execution of this tasks brought major gameplay changes which basically consists of:
- Changing direction of the ship: The navigator can interact with the rudder and move the ship up and down. The sea has tree lanes where the rocks can spawn so a crewmate on the mast has to inform the navigator from which lane the rocks are coming.
- Repairing the ship: If the navigator fails to evade the rocks, the ship will break down. But it can be repaired by the tripulation! Take some wooden planks from a box and go repair the inside of the ship before you sink ;)
Aditionally, we added some things that are going to be incorporated to the gameplay mechanics soon™. More info on these can be found in the previous devlog (shark attack)
Progress made since the last Devlog:
- Added water to the inside of the ship when the ship is sinking
- Holes in the ship can be repaired with the wooden planks now
- Defeat condition stablished (A significant amount of water entered the ship)
- Lose window added
- Victory condition stablished (The players survived certain amount of time)
- Victory window added
- Rocks, wooden planks and wooden planks box assets added
- Character "Holding something" animation added
- Implementing cannon manipulation
Current work:
- Music! 🎶
- Putting tag names at the top of the characters (to identify each player)
- Adding UI to look at the pending tasks in the boat
- Implementing Shark damage to the ship
- Interaction with the shark
Extra:
Yesterday, we had a testing experience with real players who provided us with valuable feedback! As a result, we are planning to:
- Make the ship movement more continuous
- Add instructions or tutorials
- Make rocks easier to evade
- Change details in the UI
- Add animations/pop up/sound when the ship collide with objects
