we're back again! and oh boy I have a huge update for you all!
let's get it out in the open right away. there is now an NPC! he's a pill bug tinkerer named "PB," and he gives the player the "build" tool. I won't say much more though, so I'll leave the actual dialogue and portraits up for you to discover. :)
I'm particularly happy about this update because the dialogue system is one I wrote completely from scratch. could I have used something preexisting like Dialogic? probably! but also, I wanted to write it myself so I had complete control and understanding of it, meaning I could integrate it nicely with other parts of the game. for instance, I can write code directly in with the dialogue information. most importantly though, I think it was good practice in problem solving. i.e., how to make something simple to write dialogue with while also having it be dynamic and expressive. I think I've done this pretty well, and I'm excited to add more characters and much more lines of dialogue that interact with every aspect of the game.
that's all for this update though. going forward, I hope to start working on some of the final missing features, including a name for the game! talk to you all in two weeks! :D
