Rather than do what I said I was going to do, I revamped a bunch of the things about how kicks worked. I'm generally happier with how it feels now.
Instead of kicking perfectly straight every time, the accuracy of a kick is now determined by:
So, rather than being a basically meaningless and frustrating exercise, the golf swing meter now actually contributes to accuracy, as is tradition for horizontally-oriented golf swing meters.
I added a subtle visual indicator at how good the character is at shooting (gray pluses; orange pluses are for attack and defense).
Also, I recalibrated the AI so that it kicks the right distance. Also also, I fixed a bug that almost always prevented the AI from shooting. Now the AI makes all kinds of crazy shots, and I enjoy that.
Next, I actually want to take a bit of a detour and figure out how to embed the game on the store page so it's easier to try. The Prolific Matt Hughson wrote a nice post about how to embed an NES emulator ( https://www.matthughson.com/2020/07/17/nesdev-embedding-an-emulator-on-itch-io/) but I've failed to find any similar instructions for MD. I expect it will have something to do with https://github.com/db48x/emularity. If any of y'all have advice, I'd love to hear it.
Until next time, Tokusatsu Team!
