Progress Update #7

Baldi's Fun New School Ultimate
A browser Ultimate BFNS made in HTML5

Hello, and welcome to the seventh progress update of Baldi's Fun New School Ultimate! In these updates, I share what progress I have made since the last update while working on this project. I hope you'll enjoy hearing what I have to say, and now it's progress update time!

V0.2.5b Progress

Progress on the V0.2.5b revision update has been going well and is around halfway finished. And work on the experimental version of the Floor Browser that will be included in the update has also been going great. I have gotten it to a point where I've been doing some testing to make sure that the basic functionality for the browser works correctly (such as the ability to download and delete floors). As for when the update will be released, my current plans are to release it sometime around the middle of November, after a trailer for the update has been released. You can see a development image of the browser below.

Beta Floor Builder Ideas

Before I end off this progress update, I would like to share some ideas I've come up with on how to improve the Floor Builder in the beta versions of BFNSU. One of the first ways would be a redesign of the UI to make it easier to use, especially for mobile players. Also, here's a look at 3 of the additions that I'm planning on adding.

The Preview Window will show you a top-down view of the object you currently have selected so you can see what direction it is currently facing. This will be a useful feature for players who want to make sure an object is facing the correct direction before they place it in their custom floor.

The Texture Selector will let you set what floor, wall, and ceiling textures you want a chunk to use. Or interior wall, exterior wall, and door textures if you have a door selected. And as a part of the also planned mod support, you'll be able to use loaded textures from a mod as well. More details about this feature and mod support in general will be included in a future progress update.

As for the Object Browser, it's where you'll be able to select objects that you want to use in your custom floor. You'll be able to access it by pressing the preview window, and objects will show up in categories. When you want to go to a different page of categories, all you'll have to do is press the arrows on the side of the browser.

With all that said, these are just a few of the additions and improvements planned for the beta Floor Builder. Some others include a vertical building mode (for creating rooms with higher ceilings) and an off-center placement type (referred to as "Specific"), which would be available for certain objects. You can see several concept images I've created of what the UI could end up looking like below.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this progress update, and thanks to everyone who has contributed, given suggestions, and has helped me out with the development of Baldi's Fun New School Ultimate. See you in the next one, which I'll be posting at the end of November!
