After a lot of work, I can now proudly present the new Brush Tool and a reworked layer rendering system to go with it. Blending is now all correct and performance is great. Undo/Redo also works! And selections will work with the brush tool as well.
A new pencil tool will be created soon for pixel art-centric editing that will work slightly differently than the brush tool.
