Devlog 1: UI Rework

Ark of The Kosmoz
A downloadable game for Windows

I'm pretty new to these game dev stuff, not sure how to write a good devlog but I guess I'll try.

Just about last week I attend an event and get to receive many feedback. It is very valuable information and data that will be essential to shaping up this game. Even though the game is very much still early in the development, I think there is something special and unique that people would love to try in this quite saturated market of rouguelike game.

By analyzing through the feedback, the first thing I need to nail down is the UX/UI of the game. Considering that this game got inspired from auto battler genre and auto chess game. The UX/UI left much to be desire.  So the plan is to completely rework a lot of UI in the game. With the goal to provide as much information as possible, the information that's matter. Then I want the experience with the UI to be as intuitive as possible.

But beside that, the gameplay is doing alright but there is some major issue that need fixing such as:

  • Enemy visibility, player can't spot the different between ally and enemy.
  • Conflicting system between the needs to quickly collect money while countdown to next phase.
  • Transition between 2 gameplay (combat & teambuilding) is not smooth. Things feel slow and interruptive with phase countdown.

These are the a small tip of the feedback, and I'm excited to improve on the game as much as possible.

What's next?

So the plan is to rework new UI system that meets the goal (better information & intuitive) while also complement with new gameplay system in the future.

Now this is the preview picture of the UI that I'm working on. Now the arsenal will be separate into multiple tabs.
