Happy Friday gamers! Borealis here with a True Colours update!
Last week, I mentioned that the game was moving into its final development phase - full game playtesting. How's it been going so far? Pretty damn funny, actually!
I had a moment of serious deja vu yesterday - when I was developing Venus: Improbable Dream, I remember doing an initial playtest of the whole game and thinking 'yeah, this only needs a few minor tweaks, nothing big'. Implemented said tweaks, went for another playtest... and wanted to change SO much of the script, that I might as well have just deleted the entire game and started again!!
Okay, maybe not to that extent, but it really is telling how that second playthrough highlights SO MUCH MORE of what could be better. I think during the first playtest, your analytical brain hasn't fully woken up, so you aren't as discerning. Come the second one, it's fully activated, and you're throwing entire chunks of dialogue out, thinking "how the hell did I think this was okay before?!"
Sounds like a mess, but honestly, it's a really cathartic process - once the brutal edit is done, you feel so much better about what you've created, and more convinced that it's potentially the best that it can be. I'm going through this big final editing process BIG TIME with True Colours right now, but it only means that once I'm done, you're gonna have an even better experience once you play it!
