Starting with last week's dev log we have switched to weekly dev logs, alternating between our two games. This week, it's all about A Shot in the Dark, and next week we'll give another update on Prince of Suburbia.
We are excited to announce that A Shot in the Dark will be featured in the upcoming Steam Visual Novel Fest!
Steam Visual Novel Fest celebrates the spirit of telling a story through art and interactive fiction. The event runs from August 7 to August 14, offering demos and discounts on current and upcoming visual novel games of all kinds.
We are honored that A Shot in the Dark was invited to participate, and excited that Steam is elevating the visual novel genre with this event. Please help raise the game's visibility by adding A Shot in the Dark to your Wishlist on Steam!
Progress is happening on Chapter 4! About a quarter of the writing tasks are complete, and we'd estimate about half of the scripts are written. The current word count for Chapter 4 sits at 35,000 words, and it's looking like this update will be similar in size to Chapter 3. Since our last update, Josselyn has written a date scene with Sara and many story-related scenes, that involve multiple characters or non-love-interest characters.
Visuals are coming along, with over 150 renders completed, and about 6 animations started. Due to our recent vacation and the release of V0.95 of Prince of Suburbia, writing got a bit ahead of schedule and renders and animations got a bit behind schedule. We're back now and able to shift more focus back on A Shot in the Dark, so we will catch up soon.
While not a part of the development of Chapter 4, we've also hired outside help to optimize our code for future translation and localization. It's a tedious but crucial behind-the-scenes effort that has to be done to prepare for upcoming Steam Early Access release of A Shot in the Dark in December. (Please Wishlist it, if you haven't already!)
Below is a little sneak peek of what's in store for Alexis in Chapter 4.
