#Update
Pretty much every sprite and tile set of the project has been updated to a much nicer, coherent ensemble and now the game sports a brand new novelty…
A main menu, with the options to play, quit or see the credits; a pause menu that you can access in-game with the escape key that provides the options to resume, restart, return to main menu or quit; and finally, a Game Over Screen for when the bacon wins. There’s also a nifty health bar and a “mana bar” for the double jump.
Player character, enemies and the whole level got new sprites and animations. (Is that a parallax background in the back?). Good news is that now instead of a dog, you can skewer a wild boar and get home the bacon as the previous section teased.
I threw the towel with finding a character sprite sheet, or making my own, with the required animations for the original game idea because of the lack of time, so now instead of pressing down to pogo jump, you must press down to spin to win. This ought to be more visually consistent and a better user experience
You can also press the down arrow to crouch and walk through narrow gaps, and pressing the up arrow will see you standing provided you have enough space. Jumping or attacking also stand you up before proceeding as usual, so no stabbing ankles.
To go with the retro aesthetic of the game, it now has spiffing 16bit sound effects and music.
Not everything is sunshine and rainbows, I’ve encountered a fatal error that crashes Godot Engine the moment I try to continue editing the level, so until I find a workaround, it’s a dead end.
That does not mean I can’t keep developing other areas though. I’m thinking to add pick ups, specifically to recover health and to extend the mana bar.
For the victory condition, while anti climatic, I’m between killing all enemies present on the level, entering a predetermined area or a distinct pick up.
