G'DAY.
Welcome to a boring bug fix and performance improvement update for the downloadable version of There's Something in the Pipes. No new game content to be had here, I'm afraid - but if you scroll down a bit I've got a few other pieces to talk about as well!
Patch Notes (Windows):
- Engine updated: from AGS v3.5.1 > v3.6.0. (this should fix some performance issues, but will also break all your saves. Sorry, folks.)
- Attempt to fix a rare crash at launch: If Pipes is unable to read/write your settings to your AppData folder, it should move on with its life and use a set of default values. (Emphasis on 'should' - please contact me if the error persists!)
- Fixed an issue where dialog bloop volume would reset on its own.
- Selected saved game now has a white background, so it's easier to tell what you're about to load up.
- Ingrid more superstitious: Ingrid will now segue into her ghost-related hints immediately after roasting you for believing in them.
- Items less sticky: The broom will now go back to your inventory after it is used on the tub. Items will clear whenever you move between rooms. (And as always, you can right click to clear your active inventory.)
- More Dramatic Pauses: Auto-advancing text will now wait a few frames before moving on. The last line of dialog will now wait for you to click.
- Alternate inventory button: you can also access the inventory by pressing "I".
- New icons for the .exe files. Quack.
Known Issues:
-
(Windows) Antivirus gives an alert when the game is downloaded: There's Something in the Pipes is what's called an "unsigned executable". Basically, it means I haven't forked out $400 to prove to Microsoft it was made by an indie developer and not someone trying to steal your kidneys.
I'm looking into it for future games. For now: just trust me bro - (HTML5) Hey why aren't these fixes implemented in browser yet?: The process of porting AGS to HTML5 has changed since the original upload. Will sneak these fixes in as soon as I'm confident I'm not about to break a ton of shit!
News & Stuff:
Feelin' Scummy:
Since Pipes is an AGS game, it's now supported by the SCUMM Virtual Machine. In other words, you can easily emulate it on Linux, Mac, and iOS devices! I didn't have anything to do with this, by the way. I just think it's neat.
AGS Community Awards 2022:
The Adventure Game Studio community awards ceremony has come and gone. There's Something in the Pipes was nominated for AGS's "Best Short Game" award. It didn't win, but hey! Pretty cool!
If you're looking for more point-and-click action, why not check out the other games in the category? They're free! And they're on itch.io!
Lunch Break (Your Neck):
I'm working on a lot of things right now, such as "being employed" and "learning to code in C#/Unity so I can be even more employed". More relevantly, I'm currently blocking out the puzzles for the next Clarissa-centric game.
Tentative title is Lunch Break (Your Neck). It's not really a sequel, more like another round of nonsense. This one's not for a gamejam, so it'll probably be longer to make, longer to play, and (hopefully) have some nicer animations.
With Twitter rapidly going the way of the dodo I suspect my development log for it will be a few months of dead silence punctuated by a full release. Unless I discover some other massive game-breaking glitch in Pipes that warrants a patch log. Anyway, see you then hopefully!
