In this series of posts I want to tell you about the world of the game. About the races that inhabit it, about the history.
Goblins don't grow up the same way humans do.
They life shorter, up to 50-55 years old at most. That's about 70-77 years, if you translate that into human years.
On average, goblins live 40-45 years (56-63 years by human standards).
To figure out how old a goblin would be if he were human, you have to multiply his age by 1.4. For example, if a goblin lived 20 years, he would be 28 years old if he were human.
But this does not apply to the early childhood of goblins, there their age correlates with the human age a little differently:
A 1 year old baby corresponds to a 1 year old human baby.
But a two-year-old goblin child develops faster and corresponds to a three-year-old human child.
At the age of 3, the goblin is as developed as a 4.5 year old human child.
At age 4, the goblin child is already the same as a six-year-old human child.
At the age of 5, the multiplier 1.4 kicks in, and the child develops like a 7-year-old human child.
For creatures that are only part goblin, it's hard to calculate age. The more human blood in the creature, the more it will live, and the multiplier for its age will be different. For example, if a goblin is 20 years old, in the human standard it would be 28. But if it is half-human, it would be 24 or 25.
Non-humans simply state their normal age, how many years they have lived. And people calculate for themselves what age, in human terms, nonhumans correspond to. This is needed to enforce human laws when non-humans live in a human state.
For example, to pay old-age pensions for non-humans - if a pension is paid to people starting at age 50, then some non-humans (for example, half-orcs) may not live to that age at all and so they get those payments earlier. The same goes for the age at which you can get married.
Technically, goblin girls can have a child as early as 7-8 years old (10-11 years old in human format), but by law city authorities usually do not allow a girl to get married that early.
