Update (18-Jun-2023)

Delivery Pilot: Dreams and Debts
A browser game made in HTML5

Hi All,

I  want to give a quick update!

My computer is up and running, again. However, I have not reinstalled my development tools like Unity, yet. The good news though is that I am still able to continue working on the writing.

Last week, I actually reviewed what I wrote the week prior to that. It’s a good thing I did, because one of the last sub-scenes I wrote was growing way out of control. I was really excited about it and the potential it had. Looking at it again, I realized that not only would this piece take a long time to code and test, but it would also become too long for the player, with too much clicking. Most players won’t even see the scene, because it’s something that happens at relationship level 10. Therefore, I’ve now simplified that sub-scene a lot, and I think I’ve also kept the essence of what I wanted.

That’s all for this update, but since that really big sub-scene has been cut, I thought I’d share the idea behind it here. The sleazy female officer and the protagonist perform a strip show together for an audience. The scene would have been really dynamic, where either the protagonist took her shirt off first, or the officer took her shirt off first. Or, the protagonist might have unbuttoned the officer’s shirt off for the crowd, or the other way around. Same for whatever skirt or pants they are wearing and their lingerie. Between these steps, they would also perform some small actions to break up the pace, like kissing each other, or accentuating certain parts of themselves or their partner with their hands. It becomes a bit trickier, because it also has to take into account what the protagonist might not be wearing already, because of the obligations that are in effect.

I like the idea, but I think it became too complex for something that will rarely occur, due to its high relationship level requirement. I think this also brings up an interesting point about game design. You can either focus on a big picture and brush over the smaller details, or you can focus on the smaller details, and not get too deep about the bigger picture. If you do both, then it becomes too complex and too much to manage. Either is okay, but in the case of Delivery Pilot, it’s a game that’s focused on the big picture (how many stations, officers, debt cycle), and not on the little details (who does what in which scene).

Cheers!
