Welcome to another Elysian Log, where we look at what was implemented in this update and what you can expect from the next month of development.
Let's get started!
Milestone: Aquatic Stage Foundation
The time has come! The base for EE's wettest stage is here! Last month we held an art contest with underwater biomes as a theme. Based on the best entries we planned the first three biomes for Aquatic Stage: Vine Reef, Pillar Forest and Skeleton Plains! With the big 0.3.0 update, the Vine Reef was implemented into the game. While it still is pretty barren, a variety of underwater effects, including caustics and god rays, make it look stunning already!
Milestone: Inventory System
You will be able to find all sorts of food and materials on the sea floor. But right now there is only one: Glubby (the Glubster, Glubberino, Glub Glub, Glubbington), a species of blue snails, serving as the primary food source for small carnivores in the Vine Reef.
Your inventory can be used to store up to 12 food items to either save them for later or feed them to your offspring. Collected materials can be used to build nests and also more complex structures in the following stages.
Milestone: Plant Editor
We originally planned to have completely random generated vegetation, but our plans have changend, so we added the highly requested Plant Editor!
It currently only has 2 parts, but introduces some new features. Plant stems are the first parts that can be placed asymmetrically and can also merge with each other to create more complex shapes. In addition to that, we planned to add trunks with modifiable joints, similar to the limbs in Spore, so you are going to get a lot of possibilities for customization!
Milestone: Cell Stage Biomes
Not only the Aquatic Stage became more lively - a total of three new biomes have been added to Cell Stage! The Hydrothermal Vents (in the image) and the Crystal Clusters for midgame, aswell as the Seagrass Beds for lategame. Another, final biome is planned for the next update. They currently all share the same spawn pool for microbes and environment objects, but will all receive their own little ecosystems and music tracks in the future.
What's coming next for Elysian Eclipse
