UPDATES SINCE JAM BUILD
checkpoints exist now! No more going back to the start after death.
If you have enough coins to continue.
Coins are now spent to pay for a continue ( x 10 ) to encourage you to take the risk to get them.
HP system now exists! As funny as 1 hit deaths were, you now have up to 3. First cactus hit will now bring your foot back to where it started while leaving the boot stuck in the cactus.
A bare foot hit will take you out.
You can now find boot boxes that replenish your boot. If you already have your boots, you'll get a steel toed upgrade that gives you one additional hit.
There are still 1 hit deaths if your body hits a cactus or certain enemy attacks. ( Anything not hitting the boots specifically ).
3 new boot types added. Each boot has a different lift height, speed, and drop. As well as different wind resistances.
Heavy boots ( red ones ) lift and drop straighter than normal boots. Easier to aim your drop. Heavy boots are less effected by wind.
Goth boots lift high and fast. Very straight up and straight down. Helps with not overshooting a step, but has its own difficulty for aiming by being higher off the ground.
Bare feet. Moves faster and more precise than normal boots. Bare feet are for those that want a higher challenge. You cannot gain boots from boot boxes while using these.
Bare feet when using other boots will still use the mechanics of the chosen boot type.
Adjustments to normal boots & collisions have been made as well.
Cactuses now bounce a little when hit.
Feet now pull back to Cowpoke before activating the death animation.
Death animations created for other boot types + single boot animations for when one foot still has its boot.
Completely redid the gravity system to allow for stepping at different heights & falling down pits. ( Was just tied to the y value before ).
Added cliffs, pits, and breakable platforms. Falling causes you to die, but sometimes you can grip the side of a wall and climb up.
A second level using cliffs has been added.
More control options!
In addition to A & moving your feet, you can now use the left and right arrow keys.
New abilities!
You can now press and hold down to crouch. While crouching, you can crouch walk.
Whip added! Space bar cracks a whip . You can do this standing or crouching.
Controller support with many button variations has been added.
New enemy! Sandworm.
Sandworms will jump back and forth from the sand, turning around at a cactus.
New enemy! Rubbadub!
This mysterious rubber duck in the dirt looks.. like I should step on it??
Roadkill the Roadrunner.
We have a friend! Auto run segments on the back of Roadkill have been created. Classic run and jump gameplay. - level not in current build however -
Infinite Mode - still an early build, but there is now an infinite level. Spawning sets of cacti and enemies infinitely. More spawn sets need to be created. Score system will be improved. Scoreboards later on.
Score system. Each cactus passed earns 10 points ( unless the cactus is destroyed ) bonus points for stepping between close together cacti.
Points are also awarded from enemies & boot boxes, etc.
Multiple enemy types and new cactuses added!
More stuff than that but it is a lot to list already!
Cowpoke will be split into two games. A mobile game using only the infinite mode & a Windows game including fully designed levels, more environments + a lot more.
The majority of the bigger game has been planned and designed. Lots of artwork created for upcoming environments.
Mobile game will get new sets added to infinite mode & eventually get new environments & obstacles as development on the main game continues.
