Anyone can play bass guitar

City Escape
A browser game made in HTML5

Lost two weeks of progress due to personal matters—an immense drag, but I'm doing my best to try and catch up. Today, I coded the foundation of the bass-playing minigame. I'd had it on my to-do list for a while... and ultimately, today was the day.

It's unlockable by talking to a couple of people and then interacting with the giant bass guitar in the dojo.

You can pick up the bass and play any of the strings by using the directional inputs. There's a visual response that occurs whenever you pluck any given string, but I have yet to add any actual sound to it—making it rather ungratifying at the moment.

Minigames are fun because they break up the flow of constant conversational progress, but they also take much longer for me to implement. Conversations and fetch quests are relatively easy to add. But when it comes to minigames, there are so many places where I can write awful, nonfunctional code.

Currently, the game has about three (playing bass, sneaking around soldiers, and fighting the Mayor). I don't have any plans to add any more at the moment. The mission creep has been pretty strong with this project. I just need to reach the finish line at this point.

There's a nice guy in the dojo. His name is Monteverdi, but everyone calls him Monty. I wanted to put that line in, but I couldn't get the conversation to flow properly. Maybe the solution will come to me in a dream.

Anyways, I'm back on the wagon. Thank you for reading. We'll escape the city someday.
