Update 4 changes & info!

Demons Within Update 4 out on Patreon!

Whew! And here we are! Another update!

And another update that came out larger than predicted...

The initial idea with this update was to keep it a little simpler and succinct due to the fact that I intended to implement the Memorium, Demons Within's own spin at a gallery, alongside it. The Memorium is here! Both Blain and I worked hard into making it as awesome as possible for its initial debut. There are still a few key features that I very much want to add to it with the biggest one of them being a way to view the beautiful sprite art of people's memories in it. This feature is what I intend on trying to implement for the next update as its next improvement.

That being said, at the end of the day... the update itself did NOT end up being shorter and simpler because of it, hahah! This update is as long as any other update so far and, in fact, at one point there were so many small branches that I had to make a flowchart to myself so I could figure out how to write all the connections.

In the end, though, I think it turned out pretty well! There's a lot of story content, a bunch of fun little gimmicks, and different ways you can go about the much-awaited spare day with our bear, Ludwig. 

I'll detail everything new in the changelog below and, overall, I hope you enjoy it!

Update 4 Changelog

• Around 20k words of new content covering spending the Spare Day with Ludwig

• New expressions, and new assets added to some existing sprites
  

• Demons Within has a new main menu with new art, effects, and new music

• Implemented the Memorium, Demons Within's own spin of a gallery. Peruse Resnick's memories, both old and new, to review everything you've seen in-game so far
  • Memories need to be unlocked through the game to be seen in the Memorium. You can do so by clicking them and opening them once when you find them through the story. Once a memory is unlocked once, it's unlocked forever even if a different save is loaded
    
  • Memories are not retroactively unlocked, unfortunately, so going through the game again and unlocking them will be necessary to unlock every single one there is right now
  • Alongside a bunch of new memories that appear in this update, there are also a few new ones added to Update 3's content
  • All memories so far were reviewed and most of them got slight rewrites to better fit the new system

• Added a new setting to limit some of the game's animations. This new setting will disable some of the animations known to be more taxing and that can cause crashes on devices with limited resources, such as the bouncy text during the story or the background particles in the Memorium
  • This setting comes at 'All animations' by default on PC and 'limited animations' on Android devices

This is it! Lots of stuff! And there's so much more to come!

We'll get started with Update 5 now. Not only will it cover Edwin's day, but I intend to expand the Memorium as already stated, keep improving the visuals of the game and interface, and... I've got a surprise in store coming soon as well. Maybe it will make it into Update 5. Update 5 will also feature some new side characters again so be on the lookout for that! We already had a poll on Patreon to define the species... ;)
