Identity: Version 0.3.8—Public Release

Identity
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android

Hello everybody,

Hopefully to not yet another bi-annual update release post. It has been about seven months since our last public build.

While development has been moving behind the scenes, it is of course less than ideal to have so much time between releases. We are aware, and we do want to do better.

We did outline in a dev diary post last month (click here) what kind of substantial changes we had been working on. But, there also have been changes to our team structure as well, so while we did not produce many builds, a lot of things did happen.

Between builds we did shift the labour of internal business operations towards different crew members, including the PR. We are hoping to have a consistent production pipeline going soon enough; we have more new content waiting at the moment to be released in a future build, currently.

As for itch itself, we have mostly viewed this platform as a means to release our build. At least I, Lone_Wanderer, looked over the comments here at times and while we didn't respond in the last months we do read them. We are still figuring out how to approach interactions with you, our audience, as we had mostly kept our talks about progress to our Discord and also Patreon so far.

New content

This update includes the first part of a massive rework for day 5. Most of the rework was done by Gherod, and he even replaced Berac with a scene between Azorin and Camila now. It is a bit more like a noire detective thriller now, and should hopefully be more exciting to experience.

Azorin is now a different character, while keeping the personality traits that he was supposed to have. So, he is far less abrasive and should be a lot more personable now. On top of that, you should now also be able to spend some time with the detective, as their first date was written and added to the game. We're really curious about your feedback on him!

We also touched up the ending parts of day 5, where Azorin makes a bit more of a direct reference to the weirdness of all the surrounding occult stuff. Even Garreth has gotten a payoff now, that will be revealed if you were saved by him and also maxed your dating progress with him up until that point.

There is a bit more stuff to discover, but we aren't finished yet with reworking day 5 and will return to it at a later point. For now, most of the magazines have been temporarily removed and will be returned once we have reworked all of them.

Thankfully, even with the war in Ukraine raging on, our artist Rauch has still managed to deliver on an impressive amount of new backgrounds and illustrations. For the first time ever, the game will no longer feel empty during the moments which matter most.

All of the art pieces we had shown in our previous dev diaries were added to the game. This includes the art for Corvolin, a certain scene in the library and also several sex illustrations (one of which was literally just finished before posting this update!)

Aside from illustrations, this new reworked day 5 also already has been worked over by Samples. So hopefully, with every new build of the game, it should all feel like a more complete experience through and through.

And last but not least, we also fixed a progression bug involving Brym's dates. You used to be able to access his second date before you were supposed to, which broke his variables tracking your progress with him. Hopefully, you should now be able to get the best outcome with him, but let us know if it's still broken.
