Changelog v23-04-15

The Null Doctrine
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

This is likely the last update to the prototype for some time, as I shift to focusing on new content and features instead of polishing and bugfixing what's already there.

  • Added screen effect when Omen takes damage (color is configurable)
  • Abilities now show their damage and knockback/travel on their targets before being cast; these can be hidden in the layer menu in-game ("Hit Preview Popups" and "Shove Previews")
  • Added damage popups (can be toggled off in the settings)
  • Added Entity Rings to show entities' exact collision (the collision itself remains unchanged); these can be hidden in the layer menu and can optionally have health bars on them
  • Your current MOV multiplier is displayed next to your MOV when affected by crouching, carrying a heavy object, etc.
  • Added option to show remaining MOV near your cursor while plotting movement
  • Your current ability zone stands out more against other abilities' zones
  • Suppression (MOV Denial) only applies if the enemy is Vigilant
  • Chain Pull now factors in your actual distance to the target; as a result, you can now only pull enemies into yourself with it if they're already extremely close
  • Abilities like Chain Travel and Sword Lunge can no longer be used to teleport past enemy vision cones
  • Ability zones should correctly hit enemies who are being manipulated as a preview (e.g. with TK Spin)
  • Ability sounds and sound previews should behave more consistently
  • Fixed instances of zones (particularly vision cones) being drawn in the floor, resulting in z-fighting/flickering
  • Fixed strangle animation being wildly out-of-position
  • Fixed an extremely rare instance of units reacting to the sound of the attack that hit them instead of reacting to the attack itself
  • Added option to change which screen the game is displayed on
  • Settings and main menus now grab keyboard focus for easier keyboard navigation
  • Settings menu scales slightly less on large screens
  • A smattering of behind-the-scenes refactoring

Hotfixed since this devlog was first posted:

  • Fixed enemy knockback being delayed by 1 turn (the only enemies with knockback are in the tutorial)
  • Fixed MOV remaining mouse text displaying "1.23" when it shouldn't display at all
  • Fixed Punch Throat not telling you its damage in its description
