Colour Party
In Colour Party, you play in a 2D map with a design with multiple different colours. You have to reach a certain colour within a certain time, and if you reach the colour in time you survive to the next round.
Each round, the map changes and the amount of time that you get to reach the colour decreases, so the game gets progressively harder. You win once you get to the fastest round.
Powerups can spawn which when collected can give you effects such as a temporary speed boost.
Casual game – fun and quick to play, but does not have that much depth to it.
Strategy / puzzle
This type of game is not a new concept and the reason I chose to do it was because I have played a Minecraft minigame which implements it (for example Block Party on HiveMC https://playhive.com/2023/01/20/its-time-to-party/ and Pixel Party on Hypixel https://hypixel.net/threads/new-ptl-game-pixel-party.4604508/ ). However, I do know that the same concept of game is in lots of other casual games.
As obviously Minecraft is a 3D game, my game won’t be the exact same – but considering the core concept is a 2D floor, I think that it can be easily done with 2D. Also, of course these games are multiplayer but I think so I can actually complete it, it will need to be single player (or maybe adding other player AIs if I have time).
The intended audience for the game is anyone who would enjoy a fast paced casual game where it is not particularly complicated and the main skill is reaction time. With the different designed maps, it should be visually appealling and enjoyable for limited replayability without being a game that can be necessarily played for hours in a row.
This style of game has been popular as a minigame in different games - e.g the Minecraft servers that I mentioned previously. I don't believe it has been particularly successful as a standalone game, as it is a very simple concept. However, the intent with the project isn't to have a complex standalone game and I think that for the purpose of it it makes sense.
There will be several different designs for the maps, that I intend to make myself, but here is an example from the previously mentioned Pixel Party game:
The player will only see a smaller part of the map, centered on the player. For example:
(The bottom right of the screen is the colour that the player has to reach)
I think that the concept statement explains the game mostly as much as necessary.
The player will be controlled with WASD keys and they must reach the specified colour before the time is up.
After the time is up, the map will change to a different one and a new colour will be picked after some time.
Each round when the map is changed, there will be a chance to spawn a powerup at a random location, which when the player reaches they can collect and it will be applied (ie a temporary speed boost).
