I secured an additional playtester who didn't mind my hovering over their shoulder, and a number of possible improvements were noted and made. Updates to the final-pre-jam version include :
- Larger update options with correspondingly larger font
- Visual reinforcement of the righthand, second tier's effect
- Pacing accelerated in the endgame
- A quick - restart option, and a message telling how to use it if/when the player reaches a fail state
- Rephrasing of some of the explanatory text
- Commas added once the point totals exceed a thousand (and again at a million)
- Visual feedback for when the righthand, first tier's effect is active.
- Small tweaks to the shading, icon positioning, etc.
- Some invisible-to-the-player replacement of fixed numbers with code-set variables. No obvious effect here, but should make potential updates in the future easier to execute.
