Roton Released!

Roton (PC)
A downloadable game for Windows

The remastered version of my first PC game, Roton, is released today.

Roton, along with Martian Rover Patrol are my first two PC games (excluding the test that was Global Thermonuclear Warfare). Made in 1999/2000, they were released on CD-ROM with my first 3D game Trax, and only really worked on CD. These games have never been available by download, and vanished from the world along with the doomed CD release shortly after 2000.

Until today! I've updated Roton and Martian Rover Patrol for modern computers, spending about a week vastly updating the game engines of both games. In gameplay terms, both of these games are simplistic compared to my later games. Now, if I were making new games, I'd change lots, add lots, and probably make totally different games, but the aim here was to make these games available as they were.

Almost all of my updating was to the game engine and system reliability, but I've made a few small gameplay changes to both, and restored the original music which used to be a CD-audio track.

Find Roton here for $4, and if you pay $5.99 you'll receive the remastered wav of the game theme.

My goal is to restore all of my existing game catalogue and all sales contribute towards this. Arcangel took me two years to make, was never released (except via a bootleg publisher demo!) and will be a lot of work to reconstruct and could use an official release. Other games that need updating include Trax, Bool, Firefly, Breakout Velocity and Fallout Velocity, Outliner, and Gunstorm and Gunstorm II. Perhaps one day I'll make new games, those would be very different now, but my first priority is to make the existing ones work.

Anyway, enjoy Roton. It's a rare example of a game where beating your best score is a genuine goal.

Happy playing, and please share the word.
