The ability to pause and exit is a long-overdue addition to the game. This is now available in the latest build. Press the escape key on the keyboard or the start button on your controller.
Whilst this looks like a small change, it required a rethink in how I'm loading and unloading scenes in Godot. I've now implemented a very simple scene manager that makes it easier for me to take the player to different parts of the game.
