Game Concept Overview:
Our game is set in the Old West. The world is overrun with demons. Hell has been unleashed on Earth. Our hero, The Cowboy, is gifted with a gun from God himself, capable of killing anything in existence within six shots. Players will take on the role of The Cowboy, killing the demons and saving the world. Heavily inspired by Mega Man.
Game Concept - Plot, Gameplay, Level Design:
A town is overrun by demons. The saloon on fire. Creatures are bursting out of the front door. A few people are desperately trying to fight back, to no avail. One gunslinger is fighting, able to kill a few of the demons. The player gains control of The Cowboy and plays through a level. After The Cowboy states “I’ve gotta get home!”, using his own personal Colt Single Action Army revolver. The pistol will take several shots to kill any enemies, showcasing that regular guns are practically useless against demons. The player will be invincible until the end of the stage, only being knocked back, with no health bar. Controls can be learned here, without punishment. Players will complete the level, reaching The Cowboy’s home at his ranch.
The ranch is on fire. The 5 Demon Princes of Hell are tormenting his livestock and burning his crops, his home. He challenges them. Satan rise from the flames of his home, killing his wife and young daughter. The cowboy fires a volley of shots at the demons. They slash him across his body. Satan rips out his eyes as punishment (this will be an implied moment, not a graphic one), and drops him bleeding to the ground. Upon waking, he finds his wife’s cross on the ground, seemingly by the grace of God. The Cowboy prays for vengeance. The Holy Light shines on him. His gun is now infused with The Light. God tells him to go forth and cut down the Demon Princes of Hell and bring Satan to his knees. The Cowboy stands up, his eyes burning with The Holy Light.
The Cowboy’s first target is Leviathan, the Demon Prince of Envy, the Long Tongued Liar. The Cowboy fights through a Grand Canyon-styled area, flooded with torrential downpours, aquatic demons, and Leviathan himself. When The Cowboy reaches the end of the level that Leviathan resides in, Leviathan - The Long Tongued Liar crosses the screen, and is given a title animation, RPG style. Fighting Leviathan will be detailed in the Boss Mechanics section of this document. Upon beating Leviathan, the rain will cease, the stage will lighten, and The Cowboy will exit the screen to the right.
Stay tuned! A lot more to come as we develop the game world, its characters, and their stories.
