The full version of Menial: a Utopian Bagel Simulator is now available!

Go ahead and download it and dive into a utopian sci-fi city state to make bagels, argue about life with strangers, dream strange dreams and gamble!

I started development around may last year and so this game took a good nine months to make. There was a lot of new challenging stuff to code, especially the gambling scenes and dreams. For the hefty amount of dialogue I wrote for this game I've read a bunch of utopian literature from Plato to William Morris to Ursula K. Le Guin, whose The Dispossessed was probably the best novel I read last year. For the graphics I studied lots of NES game graphics, I think the main influences have been Double Dragon II and Kirby's Adventure! I really like the sharp contrast of all black shadows you can see in NES games.

I'm rambling. What I'm tryna say is that I learned a lot making this game, and I'm gonna keep learning.
