Devlogs

Probably the saddest devlog I've ever built

Fade Away
A browser game made in HTML5

I wanted to tell the story behind this game without putting it in the description so I'm making this devlog about it.

In late december we had one of our elderly guinea pigs pass away and then less two weeks later we had another guinea pig we had to put to sleep due to a chronic illness that finally was catching up to him.

I wasn't intending to enter the GDevelop Game Jam but the theme of separation got to me and late one night I was thinking about watching Cotton our albino guinea pig looking for his friends searching the enclosure and then laying down sad. Then looking for them again. It broke my heart a little and in a night of insomnia I had the basic game loop done about 4 hours later.

I sat on it for a bit then showed it to my wife who teared up and suggested I finish it and put it in the jam. She drew some sprites based on the three guinea pigs to replace the roomba like ones I made. Then her mother passed away and sort of threw our life upside-down. I chipped away at making it a bit better when I had a few minutes here and there it was really nice busy work. I think all in all I only was able to spend about 15-20 hours on it across the length of the jam I got it submitted for the jam and up on itch just barely before the deadline. It's a small, short experience more about mood than gameplay, but I'm happy with it.
