The Global Game Jam 2023 was a blast, and our team was honored to participate in this incredible event. The theme for this year's game jam was "Roots," and we knew immediately that we wanted to make a game that was inspired by the classic arcade hit, Killer Queen. Our team set out to build Shroom Siege, a 4 vs 4 multiplayer couch game that expands on the snail mount mechanic from Killer Queen and adds new twists and turns.
We were inspired by the theme of "Roots" and wanted to create a game that was rooted in strategy and teamwork. In Shroom Siege, players control shrooms that can mount other characters in a race to be the first to claim victory in three unique ways - Military Victory, Economic Victory, and Slug Victory. The mount mechanic was a key part of the game, and we wanted to expand on it to make it even more fun and challenging.
The development process was intense, but we were determined to make the best game possible. Our team of artists, programmers, and designers worked tirelessly for 48 hours, creating the shrooms, characters, and maps that bring Shroom Siege to life. We wanted to create a world that was rich and vibrant, inspired by the beauty of nature.
One of the most challenging parts of building Shroom Siege was finding the right balance between strategy and fun. We wanted players to feel like they had a lot of control over their shroom, but also wanted to ensure that the game was fast-paced and exciting. Our team put a lot of effort into testing and refining the mechanics until they were just right.
Finally, after 48 hours of hard work and sleepless nights, Shroom Siege was born. We were so proud of what we had accomplished and couldn't wait to see how players would respond to the game. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are so grateful to everyone who has supported us.
