First Update

Silver Star
A browser Demo made in HTML5

The first update is here! It may be pretty early for one but I can't seem to put this game down. I've worked on a bunch of different things which you can find in the list below.

FIXES:

  • Reduced landing frames for both normal and fast fall
  • Reduced the amount of time you have to release the jump button in order to short hop
  • Made it so you can't change directions mid-dash (it strangely only occurred when you dashed right while grounded)
  • Narwubs are able to jump better
  • Optimized particles a bit by making them only appear around your screen instead of appearing in massive spawning zones

CHANGES and ADDITIONS:

  • Increased Player movement speed
  • Reworked the jump
  • Removed the jumpsquat
  • Changed death text. Sorry, there's important lore now.
  • Added a death animation to the Player and Narwub
  • Narwubs are able to tell if there's a pit in front of them
  • Added a new metal biome that comes with new particles, tiles and level design
  • Added Wallblobs, red critters that crawl around the edges of platforms (they're not really blobs but that's the name they started with and I don't feel like changing it)
  • Added some interesting characters- no dialogue yet
  • You can hurt enemies with your dash
  • Remade the title on the main menu
  • Made the area design less random and easier to navigate
  • Added controller support, still under testing
  • New cover image by Sid Sagraves on artstation
  • Probably some other things I'm forgetting

OTHER:

I'm happy to say I have all the foundations in place to build a proper universe for this game to take place in! I've never been good at worldbuilding but I think I can make something really neat involving the Silver Star and entities called Moons, which is what the ghost character is. Definitely leaning more towards a space odyssey for the story but there's still plenty to explore. Psychological horror isn't out of the picture ;)

In the next update I'm planning on adding some actual progression. At the very least I want defined areas to explore and the ability to travel to new ones, plus important stuff like NPC dialogue and new enemies of course.
