Can you imagine better ways to spend an entire Sunday if not by designing levels all day? I can.
But I got everything done I wanted to get done today: I finished the remaining 4 levels I had drawn beforehand, as well as 3 additional ones I had only vague ideas of, which resulted in lots of trial & error to get them right. That's 8 rooms in total and 2 are missing to achieve my goal. These will not be filled with puzzles, but with a boss fight and a final reward. I had to implement a new gameplay mechanic for nearly every room, so this process wasn't running as smoothly as I had anticipated. I addition, I spent a lot of time making sure the player can't get stuck or cheat their way through the puzzles.
Anyway, here's another little sneak peek:
The exit of the cave. So close, yet so far away. The journey does not end here and this room is followed by the most difficult challenges.
I'm actually speaking of myself, not of the game. There are only 3.5 days left and it seems like I will be busy on 2 of them. That leaves 1.5 days for the boss fight, cutscenes, textures, sound, and a UI. I won't lose my optimism just now, but I'll have to put in some extra hours. Wasn't this game jam called "Chill Jam"? Some people have already submitted their entries and it appears that my project might be one of the more ambitious ones despite my late start, so that's on me.
That concludes the weekend, and hopefully a productive Monday awaits.
