I’d like a Kickstarter, so I can get art, and possibly money; but explaining the open-source work-model to people has been difficult, especially when it comes to patreon.
So if they pay, they will get the pdf of the book?
Well ‘yes’, I say, ‘but they’ll also get the pdf if they don’t pay. It’s open-source: no restrictions’. My friends are puzzled.
What about a developer’s log for high-end patrons?
Sure - but also there’s a blog out about the lot on gemini://ttrpgs.com already. I guess I could make that a website? But then it still won’t be restricted.
So what do people get for their money that other people don’t get?
Nothing! The entire open-source model is about opening the gets, not closing them.
How do these things make money?
Well lots of ways, but that’s not the goal. The goal is quality. The goal is making great ~~software~~ RPG games, not to maximize the amount of money people give you.
What about t-shirts?
“Umm…..”
Physical books?
Potential backer rewards include:
I’m going to commission a big piece to show off the world’s major themes in a single image, so the Kickstarter can look pretty. Time to start sketching an outline.
