Acolytes had actually been in development for years and years before the game ever became what it is now. Acolytes was originally thought up back in 2018 when I played "Eldet" for the first time. The originalæ version was a lot more grim, dark, and serious.
It wasn't until I played the straight game "summertime saga" that the tone switched to something more playful.
The game was going to be set in a medieval world more reminiscent of Tolkien's worlds, but I played the most recent amnesia game, which is set in the middle east. I became pretty enamored with the idea of a world set in the middle east, so that is why all of the buildings became greek, Egyptian, and middle eastern inspired.
I could go through all of my influences (and I will if you ask me to) but this is just where the game started.
