First Post Newbies Game Jam Update


Death = Minions scored 9th place overall in the Newbies Game Jam out of 72 submissions. I was hoping the project would score higher than it did, but I'm happy with how it came out considering it was my first games project.


Major Updates

Full Controller Support

I added a fresh set of controls so that Death = Minions could be played using the gamepad as well as mouse and keyboard. The UI still needs some tweaking to be fully supported by the controller however.

The left analog stick control the player character's movement, the left trigger controls the player character jump, while the right analog stick controls the minions movements and the right trigger controls the minions jump. Square/X allows the player character to die on command.

Volume Slider

Volume slider should have been included in launch but I didn't know how to make one. I carried over the code from Fungicidal Maniacs that handled volume and it worked seamlessly. For now this can only be controlled via the Main Menu

Bug Fixes

  • Resolved the broken aspect ratio in the embedded player on the Itch game page
  • Fixed the broken aspect ratio of the game when stretching the playable window
  • Fixed some broken tiles that were visible on levels 2-5

Future Updates

Next round of updates will include

  • More Levels
  • Pause Menu (With Settings)
  • Tighter Physics

Not likely to be ready by next update, but I am planning on building a mobile version of this game as well.
