As I have been developing this game I have been making decisions about what I would like to appear in the game. One of the things I had difficulty deciding on is whether or not to include scenes where the main character could say some really hurtful stuff out of ignorance. I've kind of gone back and forth on this decision a few times because I feel both options have merit. Showing the character learn and grow could be very nice, but at the same time I don't want people who already hear these kinds of things on a regular basis to have to deal with them while playing the game.

I overlooked a route that now seems so obvious I am smacking myself for not seeing it sooner. I can just put an option in the menu for turning off these dialogue choices. If people want to see them they can, if they don't want to they don't have to. It really can be that simple. I don't think I've seen an option for this in other games that cover LGBT issues and I really wonder why? We have options for lower violence in games, so why don't we have options for lowering other things that could also be upsetting?
