After a very long absence, I am pleased to bring a major update to Enter the Survival Horror!
Changelog:
Migrated rules to Google Docs. This allows it to be a living document, removing the problem of version control.
Added a chapter on Tropes, Inclusivity, and Responsibility
Added short chapter on The Combat Puzzle to help clarify the mechanical goals of the combat rules
Added a short chapter on Adventure Structure to help clarify how to construct both adventures and what to modify to facilitate one-shots
Clarified how Threat Level is calculated for Never Safe rolls
Intrusions have been revamped and are more clear and useful
Connections have more uses
Moment of Peace is revamped
Vignettes (these are good!)
Safe Recovery and Safe Crafting revamped
Recovery is revamped
this is a meaningful change that I think measurably improves the game
Crafting is revamped for simplicity and clarity
New rule - Where the hell have you been?!
Provides a concrete framework for what happens if a player misses a session
Additional clarity in many spaces, including how to calculate effect relative between weapon and enemy tier
On top of that, a general pass for clarity and to remove conflicting rules. It's my sincere belief that with 0.5.4, EtSH is now RULES COMPLETE! Special Abilities will get another pass, and there will be further editing for structure and clarification, but I think that this is the game. I am in the process of scheduling a new playtest of EtSH to stress test the new rules and see if there are weak spots that need addressing, but it feels like the victory lap now.
I also added some more custom clocks to the game, and have even more on the way!
