Middle Month Grind - Scary Sprites, and Nice Sound!
From where I left off...
- We continue with the creation of the remainder of the secondary sprites, and the main sprites. Everything from hearts, brains and bodies, to the final design of the 3 main love interests, Dog, and all other sprites needed. In the end, I did end up simplifying some of the mechanics. There is still going to be a body chop shop, but to save time I cut down on the kind of assets I was going to make for it. Originally there was going to be 3 kinds of people you could find to... uh, to feed the aberrant with, a man, a woman, and a more androgynous person. Instead, I'm just going to make it super ambiguous so I'm not spending time changing hair/skin colors/body types. There's only one or two opportunities to "hunt" in the game anyway, so I didn't want to make all these assets when you'd only get a chance or two to actually do it lol.
- Unfortunately, with me cutting back on assets to make to simplify some of the mechanics, as I was finishing the story, the script naturally progressed to a point where that meant I needed to add new sprite assets to be completed. I removed about 6 assets from the production line due to wanting to simplify, but I added 9 more for the story. Oof.
- Luckily, with the simplicity required for the assets I was creating from scratch, I got these done relatively quick within about 3-4 days, and then it was time to move on.
- I was going to start sound and ambience on Sept 17 (today when releasing this log), when I finished the last of the assets but I've been nose to the grind for the past week or so, so I was lazy about getting these done today. Music in all honestly doesn't take me long to do, especially with only a few tracks, so I reckon this will only take me a few days to do and will include it in next weeks devlog! :D
I think that's it for this week! Next I'll be tackling the importing of assets into the game file, voice work, and programming. Then it's play test central until release~! :D
