Development postmortem

Of Dice and Men
A browser Of Dice & Men made in HTML5

First of all: Thank you! I never thought anyone would actually care to read this post.

I developed this game entirely on my own. Of course there is a load of game-ready Assets I have been using, but i guess its fine. If i had more time, maybe I could've come up with my own models or some music. I even prepared my old Midi-keyboard to create some songs but ultimately didn't find the right moment to do so in this very tight time-span I have been given.

Originally, the Jam this game was made for was targeted to take 48 hours. Because I initially couldn't find a nice game mechanic fitting the Jams theme, I quickly lost my motivation and almost given up completely. It was just the morning one day after the jam started where I got an idea while reading the Boxes of some old games I have stored in the cabinet of my living room. Since I always enjoyed playing role playing games, I thought I might give it a shot. Starting that morning, I had about 36 hours of the jam left and I hadn't even started.

Anyway, this is what came out. I have to admit this game is not 100% what I had in mind. Quite a few mechanics I originally wanted to implement are missing. Maybe those mechanics could make the game very much one of its kind, but sadly the time was too  short to fiddle that stuff in. All in all I'm happy I didn't give up and managed to force through and get the game to a kinda finished state. I learned a lot in the process and I am confident the next jams are going to go much better! Maybe even in a team instead of going solo.

Cheers!
