Hello everyone! Welcome back to another Devlog for Shape Shifters. The Chapter 1 update has put Shape Shifters in quite a comfy area when it comes to basic functioning, graphics, gameplay and storytelling! But "comfy" is quite often not enough. Today we will be talking about the future, upcoming updates, plans, and how they all contribute to the core game idea presented in Shape Shifters: Chapter 1.
The current iteration of combat is good, but severely lacking in truly explosive moments. The upcoming skill system will work to fix that! You'll be able to unleash devastating skills that can decimate hordes of mutants. Skills will be laid around the map as collectibles, so you'll definitely want to check every nook and cranny if you wanna unlock all the skills! There will be 3 on release, and future weapons added to the game will also have 3 skills each!
Skills will cost "Kaos Energy" a resource which will build up every time you attack or kill an enemy. This, alongside with an increase in enemy numbers and other combat changes will help keep game flow and momentum going so the excitement never stops!
I will also be introducing a new system focused on increasing player freedom and expression in your playstyle! The Shift system will allow you to change and customize the way Fora plays.
From simple stat upgrades like choosing to upgrade your defense vs attack stat to complete transformation of skills!
Thats right, the Shift system will work in tandem with the Skill system! So, although you will only have 3 skills available, you'll be able to change how they behave in a multitude of ways! An example would be changing a skill from being a concentrated, instantaneous burst to a longer more drawn-out version that deals more damage over time.
This is an RPG afterall and I will love seeing how you all express yourselves with your different builds!
Thanks to feedback received from Chapter 1, I will also be expanding the beginning portions of the game with more gameplay segments and cutscenes giving you more insight into Fora's psyche to allow you to better understand and connect with their actions before choosing to enter the Mutant Lands! The Mutant Lands themselves will also undergo level design improvements.
While there is no set-in stone release date for all this yet, I am aiming for a mid-July release and all the content spoken about here will be packaged together! Of course, I will be releasing consistent Devlogs to showcase more of everything discussed here before the update release.
