#update #2nd edition
It's been 10 months since we first released The Transition Year, and it has become our most popular game that we've made as a collective. The Transition Year (1st Edition) was, however, a game jam game. Meaning it was made with the time constraints of a game jam, based on the conversations our team previously had about hacking The Quiet Year, but we could not have the more consensus-based game development process that we wanted to have with those time constraints. One of members (Hermione Banger/Sam(wise) Figgins) got the go ahead to make a game jam version of the game from the other team members, which was a great way to get a first draft done and then playtest and start making changes. And that's what we've been doing for the past 10 months. Talking, editing, playtesting, talking, editing and on and on. We now have The Transition Year (2nd Edition) available for players to see and experience the changes we've made given a proper development process and cycle. We are going to keep the 1st Edition available on itch as well for players to compare the editions and continue to enjoy.
Some things that changed from 1st Edition to 2nd Edition:
The Transition Year 2E is the game we set out to make, and we look forward to hearing player feedback and continuing to playtest and tweak it this summer and fall. Hopefully soon, we hope to be able to offer a print version!
