Wow. This week somehow a whole lot got done, and yet nothing got done. It's weird to think about.
Technically, the maps are finished. The basic game layout is done and I'm happy with it. I also got some little story side-bits done, such as Rhonda's face reveal (as seen in the picture for this update; hmmm, what could make the tough and rowdy Rhonda so sad...?) and a bonus boss with lore ties to Colony Ship CORAL STARS. So that's the "a whole lot got done" part.
But the main overall story? Nothing. I have an outline of what I want to happen (love/friendship lock-in, Guardian's true nature revealed, four variations of the ending), but I can't get the words out. I'm not sure why I'm having so much trouble with the writing. It might be just nerves, since again this project has generated a lot more pre-release interest than I expected. I'm probably putting more pressure on myself to make it great. (Don't take this as me being ungrateful, I'm very glad people want to check out my game, I'm just blaming myself for edging towards unhealthy perfectionism in response to it, holy crap that was a big freakin sentence).
But I still got time before my personal deadline. I still hope to have the game feature-complete by June 15th. I also hope to release the trailer this weekend. And even if I do miss those goals, I'm still on-track for a June 30th release. So I'm not going to stress. Game dev was always supposed to be a fun hobby with potential side-income bonus for me, I need to stop pulling my hair out over it.
Anyway, that is the update for this week. Hopefully next week, my weekly update will just be me saying "IT'S FEATURE COMPLETE! YAAAY!" But we'll see.
