Today I added four new enemies: rat, bat, bug, and snake.
These comprise a new "vermin" faction that I wanted to have in order to make dungeon themes possible.
I then proceeded to make several dungeon themes, and I associated each combination of theme and faction with a multiplier for how many of a kind of creature would spawn in a dungeon with that theme.
Then I play tested it.
And I found myself in a room with about a dozen vermin.
Now, vermin aren't that tough. A single hit will kill them.
But they also to get a weak attack with a 1 in 3 chance of hitting.
One on one, this is not a big deal.
One of twelve, however...
My character did not make it out of that room.
My character did not last more than one combat round.
So, I changed the multipliers so that make some sort of sane sense.
And they seem to work.
For now.
Another decision I made was for vermin to not earn experience points.
Which makes the game a lot more challenging to get to first level.
I don't know if I like this yet. Time will tell.
They do all have some sort of low value drop, but in playing the game I feel like I'm some sort of exterminator/janitor for these dungeons.
Which is gritty, and kind of what I'm going for.
In any case, I feel like something cool and interesting happened in todays session.
