The Dungeon 1: Built from the Ground Up Update is the first milestone for the project! There was nothing playable or even a build showcasing this milestone since it wasn't gameplay focused exactly.
I played a game my friend got me into called Dungeon Defenders II and really liked it! The same day he convinced me to purchase the Humble Bundle that contained the rest of the series so we could play together; sounded great! Awakenedwas pretty good but we played Going Rogue first only to find a broken and not very fun game even for an early access game. It ruined the appetite we had for the series for the night. Later on at like 1-2am I woke up from a nap and decided that I could make a game like Going Rogue; but actually good. Not only that, but I bet I could make it before Going Rogue gets updated to be a good game; if it ever does.
I saw a fanbase who were hurt and felt insulted by Going Rogue after a claimed mediocre return of the series with Awakened. I personally liked it but a lot of people did not. I saw this fanbase though and saw an original game series that has had issues finding its footing in todays market. And like any good game dev does; I decided to fill it with my own game to cash in on that fanbase!
Through the next 3-4 hours I'd code up the foundational systems this game would need. I'd plan out tons of ideas for a game akin to Dungeon Defenders but very much its own game! And this is how Guild Defense was born! Nothing but love to Chromatic formerly Trendy for bringing some banger games to the TD genre with your own twist. But, friendly competition never hurt anyone right?!
For more details on what exactly I coded:
I made a wave system for the arenas that is quite versatile. This includes a squad system for enemy units that will spawn at random at one of the spawn points available in the arena.
I coded a currency system that works well and will be used later on.
The final piece I added in was a loot system with chests specifically. These have rarities, loot tables; and everything a standard loot system needs!
All this was done overnight in about 3-4 hours! I'm posting this here to tell how this project started and what the first milestone reached was!
