Devlog 4/15: New Stages

Hey Spiderlings!

If you didn’t check out our devlog from last week on custom music, go read it! It’s something you guys have been asking for for a while, so we’re really excited to be able to bring it to you in the next release!

This week, though, we’re talking about

NEW STAGES

In the next major update of BTKT, we’re excited to show off the work we’ve been doing on the maps you know and a few you don’t!

Firstly, of the maps you’ve seen in previous releases and on stream, we’ve made some adjustments that we think will make them more fun and visually striking.

Ruins

  • Added sound-reactive grass
  • Updated color palate
  • New foliage around the stage
  • More objects move the beat

Arena

  • Head-to-toe retexturing
  • Objects in scene are now assets instead of shapes
  • Updated water and lava motion

Cube

  • Structure redesign to be more open and less vertical
  • Added walls that dis/appear to the beat

More importantly, though, we have two new maps to show off!

Timelost Chamber

Deep in the fabrication unit the guilds use to train their heroes, there exists a sort of pocket from which other simulations are crafted. Using a bit of reverse-engineering, the heroes were able to gain access to this space. This is the Timelost Chamber.

With obstacles and platforms that change with the music, this is our most active map yet. If you can navigate the twisting landscape and secure victory in this complex map, you’ll have proven yourself among the best BTKT has to offer.

Training Room

Designed as a space to test and master abilities, Training Room was the first map we made for BTKT. The simple colors and grid texture will let you fine tune your movement and get a handle on exactly how different abilities carry you around the field.

Additionally, with the creation of dummy targets, you can practice your aim and learn the damage capabilities of each of your attacks. Creating combos and strats that perfectly align with your playstyle has never been easier! We'll be continuing to update this map as we get closer to release with more interactables and geometry.
