Hello. So I have been working on various games as personal projects and most of them have not been released. In as much aas the games are differed the creation process I follow is the same and I would like to tell you about my typical game design and developemnt process.
I follow series of stems categorised as PHASES and they are
1.Initiation
2.Pre-production
3.Production
4.Testing
5.Release
1.Initiation Part One.
During this stage I decide the type of game that I would wish to create .This is mostly dependent on 2 factors my skills and target audience. I dont have siufficient coding and art skills and so ost of the time I choose a game who scope is thin so that I can be able to work on it and compete it in time.
1.Initiation Part Two.
During this stage I amke a final decsion of the Genre of the game I want to make. Is it casual, hypercasual, patformer, shooter etc
2.Pre-production Part One.
The part before you start development where you plan out your game. One creates a Game Design Document(GDD) and Art Bible.GDD outlines all the info about your development process. Art bible defines your art.
2.Pre-production Part Two.
GDD is supposed to be detailed but I usually use a stripped down one that is short and simple -not complicated to follow. It had mantra, features, summary audience, etc.See attached picture
3.Production Part One.
This is where the game development takes place.I use the following tools, most of the open source: a.)Ubuntu 18.04 LTS b.)GDevelop game engine c.)Inkscape d.)GNUPaint e.)gThumb f.)Sublime Text Editor (IDE)
3.Production Part Two.
I used Ubuntu operating system because is its stability, security, timely updates, opensource applications, ease of programming as a lot of libraries and tools required are already installed and lightweightness
3.Production Part Three.
Gdevelop game engine has a robust visualscripting system (events) which simplifies development, has an in game art editor called piskel, an animation editor to animate your sprites, javascriptsupport and other cool features to help you make a 2D game
3.Production Part 4
I make the videogame using this tools following the Game Design Document, iterating stuff and trying to find bug over in a certain period of time could be weeks or days or months. This provides me with a opportunity to learn gamedevelopment and release a proyotype
4.Testing Part One
Under testing I get to evaluate the game's features ,design and worthiness and I iterate until the game is playable
4.Testing Part Two.
When testing your videogame you should check:
a.The bugs b.Possibility of getting stuck c.The glitches d.Complexity-Easy/Hard e.Absent features f.Stability on all platforms If it fails any then you should fix them
Release
When you game is ready. Then you decide on a release date and the platform you are going to publish to. In this stage you can also determine the pricing of you game and a recommendation would be to charge 1 dollar per for each playable hour.
The END
That being said our game Zombie Football is Out now and I would like to equest you to go check us out and show us some love.
