Introduction to Carriers

SALVO
A downloadable game

Dear Commanders,

With the release of version 0.5.0, we are proud to introduce a new ship class - the carrier. The Proteus Class fleet carrier is already available in this version.  This is a introduction to the gameplay mechanics of the carrier class.

Loadout

The carrier is a specialized support ship class in SALVO . While it retains the core functionalities of a standard capital ship, it is capable of commanding strikecrafts

In addition to the ship's unique modules, each carrier is equipped with two modules - Deploy Squadron and Recall Squadrons.

Deploying Squadrons

To launch a strikecraft squadron during gameplay, activate the Deploy Squadron protocol,

Crew Remaining - each squadron requires a crew to operate. Strikecrafts can not be launched if there is no available CREW

Active Squadrons - indicates the number of active strikecraft squadrons on the field

Squad Size -  number of strikecrafts in a single squadron. Up to 3 squadrons can be active at any time

Select a type of squadron, then press SORTIE to deploy it.

Squadrons - Unit Overview

Once deployed, a strikecraft squadron will be considered as a unit and will be added to the unit list.

Double press the unit icon or its assigned group number (eg. number 2) to select it.

A squadron unit has access to move and attack commands. Additionally, Unit Tactics can be used to change unit behavior when idle. In addition to hitpoints (green), a squadron unit is limited by ammunition (magenta).

Squadrons - Unit Commands

To issue a MOVE order, select a squadron and right click (single tap on mobile) on an empty area.

Squadron units can directly attack enemy units. To issue an ATTACK order, select a squadron and right click (single tap on mobile) on an enemy unit.

Squadrons - Ammo & Docking

When its ammunition is depleted, a strikecraft squadron can no longer attack or intercept.

It will automatically attempt to return and dock with the carrier. Alternatively, a squadron unit can be directly ordered to dock.

To do this, either use the DOCK protocol while it is selected

OR

Issue a MOVE order to the carrier, then press DOCK.

OR

Use the Recall Squadrons protocl from the carrier. Note: this will make ALL currently active squadrons return.

Retrieving a squadron via docking refunds a point to the available CREW, so be sure to recover your squadrons to preseve their fighting strength!

Summary

The carrier is a powerful ship class for any commander who enjoys a higher level strategic oriented gameplay. We hope you enjoy the new gameplay additions in 0.5.0, and we will always appreciate more of your feedback!
