February Devlog

Opona
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Hey, it's the end of February, which means it's time for another devlog! ⭐

1 - Music 🎵

This month I'll mainly focus on the art for the game, but here's a new song I've been working on! The main characters live in a dormitory where you can find objects and have conversations with other residents, this song plays while you explore the dormitory during the daytime:

Rory Carson · Contact (Demo ver.)

2 - Greys 🐀

All of the art in the game starts off as a rough grey sketch, which I call a 'grey'. I use the greys to code with when planning out the story and gameplay. The dormitory area of the game is mostly coded, but it's entirely grey as you can see:

Using the new point and click controls, you'll be able to walk down hallways and explore rooms along your path, the movement is inspired by old school dungeon crawlers, especially Shin Megami Tensei.

3 - Backgrounds 🏨

In January and February I've been drawing over the greys and converting them into finished art, like this:

The plot of Opona revolves around a reality singing show called Popworld, there are 100 contestants and they all have to battle for the public's affection, or they'll be voted out! It's like a Battle Royale, but with singing. This month I drew quite a bit of the Popworld set, so here's a quick tour:
