It's been a long journey up to this point, so I'm incredibly proud to announce that we've just launched our Kickstarter campaign. And to celebrate, the demo has just received a new update that brings new upgrades and enemy variations. This game truly has been a labour of love, I'm really excited for you all to try the game for yourself! Please try out the demo for yourself, let us know what you think, and consider supporting our Kickstarter campaign.
Any support you can offer will be deeply appreciated. With your help I’m incredibly excited for the future of Beyond the Long Night!
All the best!
Steve
Demo 1.09 Patch Notes
New Features
- Added the Mirror theme of Upgrades
- Bullet upgrade - bullets bounce off walls.
- Passive upgrade - player can parry back enemy bullets using their dodge.
- Superpower upgrade - player can parry back enemy bullets using their Superpower
- Buddy upgrade - reflect the buddy’s shooting pattern
- Superpower - Pinball attack
- New enemy variations for the mossy fly, flying flower and wallcrawler
- Poison - these enemies are faster than normal and cause the player’s speed to slow down after taking damage for a short period of time. These enemies are weak to fire damage.
- Fire - these enemies are stronger than their normal counterparts and cause fire damage upon taking damage. They are immune to fire damage.
- The player is now flammable and will take fire damage shortly after being set on fire. This damage can be avoided by dodging, which will cause an outward fire explosion that burns nearby enemies.
- Made the demo map slightly bigger by a few rooms.
- Enabled a hidden player score that gradually but subtly makes the game harder over the first few runs.
Bugs/Polish
- Added new wooden candle pole decorative objects. Replaced torches that were out of the player’s reach with these wooden candle poles.
- Rebalanced how often torches are offered to the player.
- Art improvements at Temple entrance (Bobbins encounter room).
- Pickles’s guitar piece is now audible from the room the player spawns into.
- Fix for aim cursor sticking and not updating often enough on some controller types.
- Renamed “Upgrades” screen to “Current Build”, and renamed the journal entries for “Upgrades and Superpowers” to “Discovered Upgrades & Superpowers” in an attempt to reduce confusion over what each section represents.
- Fixed bug where camera shake would increase after the storm had begun.
- Rebalanced camera shake.
- Added a new icon on the map for the altar room.
- Updated the minimap icon for monuments.
- Monuments will no longer give the player a buddy if they already own one.
- Monuments will no longer give the player a Superpower that the player already owns.
- Added a very short cooldown to passive effects triggered when the player comes into contact with an enemy (such as sticky skin) to avoid these effects spamming.
- Tweaked end of demo trailer to remove references to the Kickstarter
